Amitriptyline- a medicine with critical side effects


Amitriptyline, a medication which is being used since decades for treating depression is a tricyclic antidepressant that works by curing unbalanced chemicals in the brain.  Patient allergic to Amitriptyline or has recently experienced a heart attack is recommended to avoid the intake of this medication. Also, it is not suggested for people who have used MAO inhibitor such as furazolidone (Furoxone), isocarboxazid (Marplan), phenelzine (Nardil), rasagiline (Azilect), selegiline (Eldepryl, Emsam, Zelapar), or tranylcypromine (Parnate) in the last 14 days because of the serious side effects one can suffer after the consumption of this drug. In order to avoid the amitriptyline side effects, you need to make sure that you tell your doctor if you have any of the below mentioned conditions:
·         Heart disease or a  history of heart attack, stroke, or seizures;
·         Bipolar disorder (manic-depression);
·         Schizophrenia or other mental illness;
·         Diabetes (amitriptyline may raise or lower blood sugar level);
·         Overactive thyroid;
·         Glaucoma; or some other problems related to urination.
There are countless amitriptyline side effects accompanying this dosage some of which are:
·         difficulty in breathing;
·         swelling on face, lips, tongue and throat;
·         impulsive and hostile;
·         irritable and aggressive;
·         restless and hyperactive (mentally or physically);
·         Developing suicidal tendencies;
·         confusion, hallucinations and seizures (convulsions);
·         uncontrollable shaking or tremor;
·         extreme thirst with headache;
·         decreased sex drive and impotence;

Understanding Amitriptyline and its side effects

Amitriptyline is one medicine that has proved to be very effective in treating depression and it is a tricyclic antidepressant  that works by affecting chemicals in the brain that are unbalanced due to some reason.  Not everyone can take this medication, for instance if you are allergic to Amitriptyline or in cases if you have recently experienced a heart attack. Also, it is not recommended for people who have used MAO inhibitor such as furazolidone (Furoxone), isocarboxazid (Marplan), phenelzine (Nardil), rasagiline (Azilect), selegiline (Eldepryl, Emsam, Zelapar), or tranylcypromine (Parnate) in the last 14 days because you can get serious  side effects by interacting to a dangerous drug. In order to avoid the amitriptyline side effects, you need to make sure that you tell your doctor if you have any of the below mentioned conditions before taking the medication.

Some of the other serious side effects of Amitriptyline include conditions such as you may be feel chest pain or heavy feeling, pain scattering to the arm or shoulder, nausea, sweating, general ill feeling; some people have witnessed sudden numbness or weakness, especially on one side of the body and also sudden rigorous headache, puzzlement, problems with visualization, speech, or balance.
You may also feel pounding heartbeats or fluttering in your chest which continuous with the feeling that you may pass out. Conditions like confusion, hallucinations, seizures (convulsions) are very a very common side effect. You may also experience restless muscle movements in your eyes, tongue, jaw, or neck, uncontrollable shaking or tremor and also extreme thirst with headache, nausea, vomiting, and weakness; numbness, burning pain, or tingly feeling. Some other side effects includes easy bruising, unusual bleeding (nose, mouth, vagina, or rectum), purple or red pinpoint spots under your skin, skin n rash, bruising, severe tingling, numbness, pain, muscle weakness; urinating less than usual or you may not do it at all. A lot of people have also experienced some serious side effects like nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, loss of appetite; dry mouth, unpleasant taste; feeling dizzy, drowsy, or tired; trouble concentrating; nightmares; blurred vision, headache, ringing in your ears, decreased sex drive, impotence, or difficulty having an orgasm. To order to get rid of the above mentioned side effects, it is important to consult your doctor as soon as you experience any one of them.
